Launching a $500M program
The journey to end cystic fibrosis isn’t a straight line. It is an evolving map with many paths and unique challenges. It requires an ambitious research agenda to accelerate treatments and drug development for the underlying cause of the disease and ultimately deliver a cure.
THE PROJECT
The main drive behind this project was to take complex, overlapping, almost science-fiction concepts and smooth them into a clean, easily-understandable map showing how the Foundation is planning to move research forward. I also wanted to infuse a little fun.
This project took three months of working with our research team to outline the concept, break down language, and rebuild it into a cohesive path. The end result was a success: a fun, easy-to-follow, path to a cure.
The infographic piece won a Hermes Platinum Award and a MarComm Gold Award.
Large-scale installation
The initiative launched at our annual research conference, so thought it would be fun to do a floor installation that would allow people to physically walk along the path we mapped out and experience its magnitude. Printed vinyl was adhered to the carpet in the conference space and led attendees through two floors of the path to a cure.
Printed Brochure
A printed brochure allowed the community to take the path with them. Working closely with a printer, the final brochure took the shape of an accordion, with a peek-a-boo blue back.
Animation
We contracted an outside animation firm, Noisy Neighbor, to provide motion to the piece for the purposes of web display. I handled art direction of this piece, simplifying it further and giving feedback on music and pacing.
Sketches
This project took months of designing, scrapping, redesigning, scrapping, and iterating on the final concept.
